About the role
Alsys is a family business from Leiden. We build modular laboratory robots for sample preparation and integrated analysis, on our High-Performance Robot and Compact Robot platforms, for customers in fertilizers, minerals, chemicals and oil. Every system is built from modules, but no two customer requirements are the same. As a Robotic Engineer, you move between two kinds of work that both demand precision: designing a new module when a customer's process calls for one, and configuring a complete system from existing modules when that process already exists. Both end up at the same customer, on the same floor, with the same robot expected to perform exactly as agreed. You work daily with sales during the Design Study phase, with electrical and software engineers on the interfaces between mechanics and control, and with the workshop during build and assembly. That puts you at the point where a customer requirement becomes a drawing, and where a drawing becomes a working system. At delivery, you travel to the customer yourself to test and hand over the system.
What you'll do
- Translate customer requirements and sample preparation processes into the design of new automated modules
- Design complete robotic systems by selecting, combining and configuring existing modules based on customer specifications
- Create 3D designs, assemblies and technical drawings in CAD
- Develop functional specifications and interface drawings between mechanics, electrical engineering and software
- Assess the technical feasibility of customer requirements during the Design Study phase, together with sales
- Select components, materials and suppliers for new and existing modules
- Check designs against the Machinery Directive, CE requirements and internal safety standards
- Support the build and assembly of the system in the workshop and adjust the design where needed
- Carry out FAT and SAT, and travel to the customer for delivery and handover of the system
- Document designs, revisions and as-built drawings for service and follow-up orders
What we ask of you
- A degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics or a related field (HBO or WO level; Dutch applied sciences or university degree)
- At least 7 - 10 years of experience in machine design within automation, machine building or a comparable sector
- Experience with 3D CAD software
- Knowledge of the Machinery Directive and CE marking
- An affinity for both mechanics and control engineering, so you can see a system as a whole
- Strong communication skills to discuss and justify technical choices with customers
- Willingness to travel to customers across Europe and beyond for delivery
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written; Dutch is a plus
Nice to have
- Experience in laboratory automation or the process industry
- Knowledge of liquid handling or sample preparation techniques
- Experience with PLC or motion control software
- Experience with engineering-to-order projects, from first design to delivery on site
What we offer
- Base salary β¬4.300 - β¬5.400 on a full-time basis
- Bonus tied to company results
- 23 vacation days
- Ownership of your own design, from first sketch to the moment the system is running at the customer's site
- Short lines with sales and the workshop in a small, experienced engineering team
- International travel possibilities
