About the role
Alsys is a family business from Leiden. We build modular laboratory robots for sample preparation and integrated analysis, for customers in the fertilizer, minerals, chemical and oil industries. A customer rarely walks in with a ready-made request: they have a chemical process, an SOP and a pain point, and it's up to you to turn that into a working automation concept. That takes someone who understands the chemistry behind the process itself, not just someone who can sell a robot. You work from Leiden as part of the EMEA sales team and own the full journey with your customers in the region: from the first introduction, through a thorough Needs Analysis of their current process, to a first flowchart and concept proposal, a budgetary quote, possibly a Design Study, and ultimately negotiation and the order. You work closely with Inside Sales Engineering and Core Engineering to determine feasibility and cost, and ensure a structured handover to engineering and aftersales once the deal closes. About a quarter of your time you're on the road visiting customers and trade shows in the region, the rest of the time you work from Leiden.
What you'll do
- Map out the customer's current chemical process, SOPs, samples and throughput together with them (Needs Analysis)
- Identify pain points and automation drivers and translate them into a first flowchart and automation concept
- Work with Inside Sales Engineering and Core Engineering to determine feasibility, modules and cost
- Prepare and present budgetary quotes, and guide a Design Study where needed
- Negotiate the final offer and close the order
- Contribute to the EMEA sales team's revenue target, from your own accounts and region
- Keep every lead and opportunity structured in Salesforce, with a clear next step, owner and deadline
- Ensure a structured handover to engineering and aftersales once a deal closes
- Visit customers and trade shows across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, roughly 25% of your time
- Build and maintain relationships with distributors and partners in the region
What we ask of you
- A completed degree in chemistry (Bachelor's or Master's level, or Dutch HBO/WO equivalent), or demonstrable work experience in a chemical or analytical environment
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience in a technical sales role, preferably with laboratory equipment, analytical instruments or process automation
- Strong affinity with analytical chemistry and sample preparation, and the ability to translate a chemical process into an automation concept
- Commercially skilled, able to translate technical content into customer value
- Structured and disciplined in keeping leads and opportunities up to date in a CRM system
- Fluent in English, spoken and written
- Willing to travel roughly 25% of your time across Europe, the Middle East and Africa
- Holder of a valid driving licence
- Independent, results-driven way of working
Nice to have
- Specific experience with Salesforce
- Knowledge of a second European language besides English
- Experience selling capital equipment to laboratory or industrial customers
- An existing network within the chemical, fertilizer or minerals industry in the EMEA region
What we offer
- Base salary β¬4.100 - β¬5.500 full-time basis
- 23 vacation days
- A role with real freedom of movement: roughly 75% from Leiden, 25% on the road visiting customers in the region
- Direct impact on Alsys's growth across Europe, the Middle East and Africa
